NB. This Wednesday’s walk was originally intended to be along the Trepanier Linear Park/Forest and Stave Pipe trails to the Peachland Shopping Centre. However forest clearing by the WFN currently has resulted in a lot of trail blockages. When completed the trail will be a very good one for the future. Mission Greenway Walk (South), Kelowna
Start time: 7:00 PM
Trail
Rating: 1A
If you miss Durnin turn right at Leckie into the parking lot but you’ll have to come back toward the EECO Centre.

Knox Mountain Walk to Paul’s Tomb
Start time: 6 pm.
Where: We will start by parking at the second parking level half way up Knox Mountain. It is probably easiest to turn left off of Harvey onto Ellis and then follow Ellis to the end until you are in the Knox Mt Park. The trail is 2 km long and takes about an hour there and back. At Paul’s Tomb area there are porta potties available. The trail is mostly gravel and quite wide. There are some hills especially close to the parking lot, so some uphill on the way back. Walking poles would be useful.
After the walk: There is a nice restaurant that would be open at that time. It is the “Green Room”, which is just outside the parkade across from the library on Ellis.

High Rim Trail Meet Time: 8:30AM Meet Location: Our meet location is on Philpott Road, just off of Hwy 33 in Kelowna. Philpott Road is on the left, 20.5KM from the intersection of Hwy 97 and Hwy 33, and past the hair-pin turn on Hwy 33. We will park along the side of Philpott. Start Point - The start point of the hike is on Guidi Road. From our meet point on Philpott we will take 1/2 the cars about 12 km to the start point on Guidi Road. The Hike - We will be doing part of the High Rim Trail. The hike is approximately 8KM long and will take about 3.5 - 4 hours to complete. For the most part, it is a down hill hike, on a narrow trail that has numerous switchbacks. There are a few steep downhill sections, if you were to do this hike uphill you would understand why it is called Cardiac Hill. Trail Rating: 3C What to bring: Snacks, water, hiking poles. Afterward: TBD |

Sat., July 03 |
Telemark/Panorama 8/12K Wild Flower hike (3C) The hike: Saturday, July 3, 9:00 pm. The hike will start in the parking lot of the Telemark X-ctry skiing area. The Telemark Trail is only about 7.5 kms so we are adding the Panorama Ridge trail to bring it up to approximately 11.5 kms. The hike is for the most part through woods. At this time of year there are masses of colourful wild flowers. The distance can be modified by leaving out the Panorama Ridge trail according to the needs of the hikers. Gabrielle will walk only the shorter Telemark trail and so others who wish to join her for the walk back to the cars may do so. Bring a book if you wish to wait for the others. Trail rating: 3 Some significant hill climbing C A significant part of the walk takes place on somewhat difficult terrain (stony, uneven ground). Clothing: Hiking boots are recommended because of the uneven ground. NB: Because of the recent wet weather there will likely be quite a few mosquitos in certain areas so it is advisable to bring mosquito spray. Trail: There is an option at the Telemark/Panorama trails junction for those who want to leave out the Panorama extension and do only the 7.5 kms with Gabrielle. (see above) Getting there: If coming from Kelowna, follow Highway 97 south past Westbank to the top of the hill and take the Glenrosa exit to the right just before Gorman=s Lumber Mill proceeding up to the Crystal Mountain Ski Area. If coming from the south, turn right onto the Glenrosa exit at the top of Drought Hill and then turn left at the lights to go up to Crystal Mountain. At the Telemark sign on the right hand side of the road (11.5 kms from the Glenrosa exit), turn left into the parking lot and park close to the trailhead. The walk will start at the gate. Refreshments: Subject to negotiation but how about either the old Tim Hortons or the Dairy Queen, Westbank?. |

lot of the IGA mall in Peachland. We will carpool from
